May 12, 2009, Castuera, Spain: The Red Cross in Castuera officially presented Zydaron's BETAVISTA video care system as a pioneering assistance system for elderly people in need of care.

Our partner Benteq, who is responsible for this important project, explains the details:

Who are the participating companies and institutions in this pilot project?

We, Benteq, are supplying the BETAVISTA system. We have installed and implemented the video communication solution and the medical peripherals with great success. Then, Telefónica is the service provider, and their client is the community of the Extremadura as well as the Red Cross of Extremadura.

What is the structure of your project?

The project includes 2 BETAVISTA Operator stations at the Red Cross of Extremadura located in Badajoz. Currently, 5 BETAVISTA Client boxes connected to the TV are installed in clients' homes, in Castuera, a small town at 200 km from Badajoz, very near to Portugal. The objective is finally to connect 20 BETAVISTA Client boxes.

How did the Community of Extremadura win candidates among its elderly population?

The Community of Extremadura carefully selected their test candidates among the clients of the Public Health Institution of the Goverment of the region of Extremadura (Junta de Extremadura, Ministry of Health and social services). These candidates were asked if they would like to participate in this trial.

What is the purpose of this installation, what objectives does the Community have?

The purpose is to implement latest high-technology for Telehealth Assistance.

What were the experiences with the users of our system?

Excellent experiences!! You can see them in the video attached. These users are extremely happy! It allows them to stay at home avoiding terrible long waiting times in the hospital and the services are given by people they can talk to and see on their own TV.

How will the project now proceed? What is the future plan?

Until 2011, Teleasistencia Avanzada will be rolled out in the total region.  This year, the project is planned to comprise up to 100 users and then continuously grow.

Moreover, it is the first pilot in Spain and, supported by Telefónica, we will start initiating projects all over the country using this pilot as reference.

Thank you for this interesting story. We wish you much success!
