Sensire TELEHEALTH Project - Holland

Until recently 10% of people in the Netherlands depended on nursing care. In a few years this percentage will rise to 25%. In Holland there are too few carers to deal with this growing demand and even if they were available it would be too costly to support. An evolution from the telephone consultation and the personal alarm system, in the latest telehealth solution the client is connected to the nurse through their TV system. This is the window to the outside world for many clients, so is familiar and easy for them to use. With this system people can stay comfortably in their home environment for much longer. People feel safe and secure in their own home.

At the central site it's ZYDACRON’s CareStation.Net call centre solution - readings are taken, notes and recordings of the consultation are stored in the patient record system.

In the patient’s home the ZYDACRON's CareStation 140 at the side of the television collects all of the data, video, audio, and shows images of the nurse on the TV. The only connection to the outside world needed is a broadband line. A microphone connected to the box has a single button to allow the patient to call the carer. If the carer wishes to call the patient the television automatically switches allowing the call to take place as soon as the patient presses the button to answer.
Using this technology everybody benefits. The patients are able to remain independent in their own home for much longer, the carer is able to look after a greater number of patients, and the warning signs of a worsening condition are likely to be picked up sooner thanks to more regular visits and the alarms built into the system.
